Jack So appointed chairman of Trade Development Council
The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, had appointed Mr Jack So Chak-kwong Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) for two years with effect from October 1, a government spokesman announced today (September 3). Mr So will succeed Mr Peter Woo Kwong-ching, whose appointment as TDC chairman will end on September 30.
The Chief Executive thanked Mr Woo, who has been chairman of TDC since 2000, for his seven years of distinguished and dedicated service.
"Mr Woo has inspired TDC with his vision and energy. He has effectively promoted Hong Kong as a business springboard to the Mainland, raising Hong Kong's business image and profile internationally and spearheading the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Atrium Link Extension project which, when completed, will take Hong Kong's competitiveness as an international trade fair capital to a new height," the Chief Executive said.
The spokesman said Mr So was highly regarded by the local and international business sectors and had an excellent record of trade promotion and public service, serving as Executive Director of TDC from 1985 to 1992 and most recently as the Chairman of the Film Development Council.
"At a time when Hong Kong needs to respond swiftly to our country's rapid economic growth and changes in global business, I am confident that Mr So, with his wealth of experience in marketing Hong Kong around the world, is exceedingly well equipped to lead the TDC in the demanding task in the next two years," Mr Tsang said.
Mr So is the Non Executive Director of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Cathay Pacific Airways and American International Assurance Company Limited. He was formerly Deputy Chairman and Group Managing Director of PCCW Ltd (2003 to 2007) as well as the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (1995 to 2003). |
